Back to School!

Wesley went off to first grade last Wednesday so all the kids in the neighborhood walked down to the bus stop together. It is nice to live on such a small street because all of the kids know and look out for each other. It will be a few years before I allow him to go down by himself though. He was so cute getting on to the bus. As soon as he heard it bumping down the dirt road he ran to get in line. He was so excited that he forgot to say good bye to me. That was okay though because me and my friend Jen ran to meet the kids at school getting off of the bus. This was Wesley’s first bus ride and I wanted to make sure that he knew where to go and what to do when he got off. There was someone to meet the little ones getting off and direct them to the playground. He was fine and went off on his day with a quick wave!

He did not have much to say about his first day except that Mrs. Taylor, his teacher, is nice and that he was still chasing the girls on the playground. I am hoping that he fills me in on a little more as the year goes on :)

Old Home Day

Wesley and Michael’s karate school did a demonstration at Old Home Day! Wesley did his kicks, punches, blocks and kumite (Sparring). It was fun to watch because we are not allowed to sit in on classes. He never wants to show us what he does at home so this is the first time I have seen him in all of his gear! Michael was not at the demonstration because he was out on calls for work.

Two Months Old

Lani turned two months old today. She is doing well and we are loving her more and more everyday! I didn’t think that would be possible. She has developed quite the personality and is definitely a mommy’s girl. I’m sure that’s mostly because I am her main source of food:) Her schedule tends to be cat naps during the day then bed between 9 and 10. She sleeps about 6-7 hours, eats, then sleeps 2-3 more hours.Lani spent some time with Grammie this week while I went on a few job interviews. She did great and I think that she and Grammie will enjoy their days together. I am glad that since I have to go back to work that she can be with Grammie because that is the next best thing to Mommy! Some of her favorites are the song “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and her swing. She also loves her toys that she lays under to look at. Soon she will be batting at them. She loves to be up on our shoulders so that she can suck on her hands. In any other position she still startles herself so her hands wont stay in her mouth. She gets so mad. Of course Wesley is her favorite big brother. He always says “Who loves you the best? I do” ! Too cute!

Roger Williams Zoo and Kancamangus Highway

We ventured down to Roger Willams Zoo in Providence, RI on Saturday with Jenna and Wesley. (Lani had a wonderful day with Auntie Lisa!!) We saw a lot of animals and even some prehistoric dinosaurs!! Jenna’s favorite was the Cheetah of course and Wesley had too many favorites to pick just one. The zoo was nice but I thought that it would be bigger since it was in a city. It was a nice cool day for the animals so many of them were out for us to see instead of hiding to stay cool. We took a day to go up north and travel the Kancamangus Highway. We stopped at many of the scenic over looks then had a picnic at a stream along the side of the road. We went in the cold mountain water and enjoyed a quiet afternoon in the fresh air. This is a place that is very popular for people to stop along the way on their sight seeing journey. Wesley and Michael enjoyed navigating the rocks, being careful not to slip and fall in. Next time we will bring our bathing suits and enjoy a whole day there like many other people did that day.

Santa's Village

Michael is on vacation this week and we have been taking little day trips around New England! Yesterday we took Wesley, Leah, and Lani to Santa’s Village in Jefferson, New Hampshire. It was the perfect day to go because it was sunny and breezy so we did not have hot cranky kids to tend with. I hadn’t been to Santa’s Village since I was 11 so it was fun to see how it had changed and what had stayed the same.

The kids had a great time!!It was interesting to get the kids on rides together since Leah doesn’t like heights and Wesley does not like to spin! Having Lani with us was an added challenge but the kids were very patient with her frequent feeding breaks. Santa’s Village was smart to have a play area and arcade in the same building as the nursing rooms! Here are a few pictures from our day! We are bringing Jenna with us to the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence, RI on Saturday so I will have some more photos to post of that day. We may have Auntie Lisa watch Lani since she was not too happy with the 2 hour car ride to Santa’s Village. Michael’s having a harder time then I am but I feel that she would be much happier there then in the car for another long car ride!!

Silly Face

Daddy's Turn

Michael finally had the chance to feed Lani a bottle. I have been pumping so that we have a supply for Grammy when I have to go back to work. Michael has been practicing with the bottle so that she will get used to taking it. She has been doing great which is a huge relief for both of us. I love this picture because I can’t help but wonder what is going through her mind. She is used to only seeing me at feeding times and now she is staring so intently into Daddy’s eyes. So sweet!!
