Sitting in my mini van looking out the window!
So, the insurance company called last night with the news that our car is considered a total loss! This is fabulous news since we were in the market for a new car anyway. Our Hyundai had a huge list of things that needed to be fixed:
*New tires
*Struts
*rear brakes
*leaky trunk that smelled soooo musty
*blown speaker on passenger side (thank you Michael)
*blown headlight
*chips in windows
*numerous scratches and scuffs
UGH! It was supposed to be going in the shop last Sunday so THANK GOD we didn't put all that money into it. It's a cheap car, great on gas, and really never gave us much trouble. It was just old and getting on in years:)
As of Friday we will be the official owners of a Grand Caravan! It's only a 2001, but it's in great shape and only has 120k miles. A good friend told us that his Dad was selling his a mini van so we jumped a the chance. Michael went over today to check it out and he said it's perfect for us. The van was just inspected so we know everything is in good working order. The best part is we wont have a car payment!!
Now Lani will be able to join a preschool in the Fall because I will have plenty of room for all the child care children I will be watching. I also will be transporting Athena to kindergarten. I am just so relieved at how quickly Progressive got us our money.
I will be car seat shopping for Lani this weekend as well. Right now she is using the spare. My friend Michelle told me about the Graco Nautilus that she just bought. Your child can be in a 5 point harness up to 65 pounds. That's awesome!!! Progressive wasn't going to reimburse us for the seat because there was not obvious damage. Michael didn't stand for that and was given a check for $135!!
I spent a lot of time getting our taxes in order. I have a lot of receipts and paper work to go through because of my home child care. I always wait until last minute so it feels great to be prepared this year. Now we are waiting for Michae's W-2 then we will be able to file.
10 people showing me love:
great news all around - glad everything is falling perfectly into place 4 u guys!!!
2009 is starting out well for you=)
Way to go on the taxes, I had to do through Nov before we bought the house, so I don't have much to do, fine tuning and checking and stuff, but I still don't want to....
That's awesome news Wendy :) I'm excited for you guys! I know you've been anxiously waiting for this moment :) Congratulations & I can't wait to see pics of it~you have to share pics w/us, you know ;)
Wow, all kinds of great news for you guys! That's awesome. And very cool that Lani will be able to go to a pre-school next fall and you can still watch kids.
And good for Michael for standing up to the insurance co about the car seat. You're right, you never know about unseen damage, and if the car is a total loss, that should include the seats.
Oh that's so awesome! I dream of having a minivan (never thought I would ever say that!). More space can make life a little less stressful!
That's wonderful news! congrats in advance. Oh, and thank you for posting the name of the carseat. We're also looking for a 5-point harness for our toddler who is quickly approaching her 40-pound limit car seat.
Your new vehicle sounds great!!
I am stopping by from Mom Spark.
It's great how much a new vehicle will change your family's life. :) I hope you get it soon!
Wow, that was fast! Good for you guys, I soooo want a minivan!! Glad everything worked out so well.
