Cyber Baby Shower

The ladies at 5 Minutes for Mom are having a cyber baby shower as a celebration of their pregnancies. One little baby decided to come early to join in on the celebration! There are a lot of giveaways so be sure to go over and check it out:)

The first shower game is to post a picture of you "suffering the unbelievable pain of delivery". This one is hard for me because I had two c-sections and did not get any pictures of me in any pain. Let's see what I can come up with...

I know that I am smiling in this picture, but I was trying to be strong for Wesley. I was holding back tears of frustration about having to get ANOTHER c-section! We tried to have a VBAC birth but Lani's heartbeat was just so weak and we had to get her out. So, although this is not a painful "delivery" picture to most, it is to me. Isn't Wesley sweet though? Kissing his sister inside my belly for the last time?

Now onto the second game! The ladies want to see your "baby bump"! Here is me at the beach, the night before we welcomed little Lani into the world. I remember waddling through the sand saying "Maybe this will make me go into labor tonight." How about that? It worked!!

The third game is to tell your baby story.

At 4:15 am on Saturday, June 24th I woke up with really bad cramps in my back. I thought “hmm.. this could be it but it better not be it because this means back labor again.” (I had horrible back labor with Wesley) I TRIED watching a little TV downstairs, but ended up pacing back and forth from the couch to the stairs. Soon I I decided this was it I went up around 5am to get Michael.

We hung around for a while contemplating when to call the doctor because the contractions were about 3-5 min apart. So as the back pain progressed and I began to panic we called the doctor and she said ” relax, don’t rush, eat some breakfast and we will see you at the hospital in a little while.” Relax, yeah right! So, I ate two bites of toast, Michael did the dishes, and Wesley watched some cartoons!

Soon I couldn’t take it anymore so we headed to the hospital. I got to the hospital around 8 am and I was 4 cm already and was admitted. The nurse we had was my hero because she gave me hot pack for my back, Lani moved and my back labor was gone! So for the next 9 hours I labored with a smile on my face. (Most of the time) Although the contractions were painful I could get through them and relax in between with my family and friends who were there!

At around 5pm my Doctor came in and said that after watching Lani’s reactions to my contractions, she thought that I should go in for a c-section. Her heart rate was dropping significantly with even weak contractions and since I was only 6cm and labor was only going to get harder we did not want to take that chance with Lani.

I was just glad that I had tried to go natural after having a cesarean with Wesley and knew that this was best for Lani. Michael had just take Wesley down for dinner so my friend Jen ran down to get him because to our surprise we had about 20 minutes before I was going into the operating room. He thought Jen was joking but she convinced him she was serious and he came back up to get into his gear!

In the meantime I was prepped and ready to go. I went in for the surgery and because of some sorbet that I ate earlier I was throwing up the whole time and panicking that I was choking to death. When you have an epidural, you can't feel your self get sick until it's coming out! Gross, I know, but it is a scary feeling. Finally, I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl!

Lani gave us a little scare at first with and apgar score of 4. They let me kiss her then rushed her to the nursery because her heart rate was down to 60 and her breathing was labored due to some mecconeum (not sure of spelling) that she had swallowed. Her blood sugar was low and they also thought they heard a heart murmur. I was bawling because I was stuck in that damn bed and couldn't go be with my baby! Well with in a few minutes her breathing was fine but her sugars were still a little messed up. After about an hour she was allowed to leave the nursery and come be with her new family.

First off you are the CUTEST pregnant Mom! I love Preggo Belly's I miss having one.
I love the story...Believe me I wish I had a c-section with Whitney after a long 20 hour labor and 3 hours of pushing she broke my tail bone while coming out becasue she was born face up rather then face down so the back of her head fractured my tail bone......Oh the pain!

That first picture is sooo sweet! I can imagine the pain you were feeling there, not wanting a section. I was lucky that both my births were fairly uneventful!

That is about the sweetest picture I have seen with him kissing your belly. Children can be so sweet at just the right times. Great picture of you on the beach because that is quite the bump. Thank you for sharing your story and good luck in the contest.

Your son looks so adorable!!

Will all your babies have to be c-sections now? I almost had to have one because our daughters heartbeat was jumping over 200...

I'm keeping the theme and going with a new baby post everyday. Come by if you get a chance..

God bless,
Sallie
